Practice Specialties: Trauma

When is a trauma specialist needed? According to Southern Orthopedic Specialists, P.A. physician, Kenneth Smith, D.O., trauma care is acute in nature. Such injuries include fractures of upper or lower extremities, pelvic and acetabular fractures (hips), complex leg fractures, multiple injuries to organs, tissue and bone, injuries requiring internal or external fixation devices, injuries caused by falls, impacts or penetrating objects, injuries requiring bone reconstruction, and infections within the bone (osteomyelitis). Our philosophy is that each patient needs thoughtful, timely intervention to minimize complications, speed recovery and to return the patient to maximum functional capability.
