Southern Orthopedic Specialists has entered into a new partnership with Bay District Schools to provide athletic trainer coverage for the district’s high schools, helping ensure student-athletes have access to dedicated sports medicine support throughout their athletic seasons. Southern Orthopedic Specialists serves individuals with musculoskeletal conditions, including sports-related injuries, at 1827 Harrison Ave.
Under the partnership, athletic trainers will provide coverage across Bay District Schools’ high school athletic programs. The two-year agreement was approved by the Bay District School Board on Aug. 25 and took effect immediately.
“We’re proud to partner with Bay District Schools and support the health and safety of local student-athletes,” said sports medicine specialist Dr. Ryan Cotton of Southern Orthopedic Specialists. “Athletic trainers are an important resource, helping prevent injuries and being there to respond when one occurs.”
Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who provide a range of valuable services for student-athletes on and off the field, including:
- Injury and illness prevention.
- Wellness promotion and education.
- Emergent care.
- Examination and clinical diagnosis.
- Therapeutic intervention.
- Rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
